About the Event
Ireland has emerged as a premier destination for biopharmaceutical manufacturing, with USD 9.9 billion invested in new facilities over the past decade and hosting nine of the top ten global pharmaceutical firms. Major investments include AstraZeneca's USD 64 million for manufacturing and R&D, Johnson & Johnson's USD 354 million expansion in Ringaskiddy, Merck kGaA's USD 421 million investment in Cork, and BMS's USD 900 million plant in Dublin, while China's WuXi Biologics plans to build the world's largest single-use manufacturing facility in Dundalk. This success is attributed to various factors beyond tax incentives, including government support for the knowledge-based sector through institutions like the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research & Training (NIBRT), with IDA Ireland's Strategy 2021-2024 aiming to attract 800 investments and create 50,000 new jobs through focus on growth, transformation, regions, sustainability, and impact.
